AUDLEY WINS PRIZEFIGHTER / BAKER STUNS WILLAMS - 02/10/2009

FINAL: AUDLEY HARRISON BEAT COLEMAN BARRETT - KO R2
AUDLEY Harrison is the winner of Prizefighter Heavyweights III.

Harrison claimed the title with victory over Coleman Barrett in the final.

Barrett had been edging the fight but a devasting left-hand, arguably the punch of the night, sent Barrett sprawling across the ring, off the ropes and on to the canvas.

Barrett did not get up in time and Harrison had claimed the £32,000 first prize.

SEMI-FINAL 2: AUDLEY HARRISON BEAT DANNY HUGHES - PTS 30-26, 29-27, 29-28

SEMI-FINAL 1: COLEMAN BARRETT BEAT CARL BAKER - PTS
COLEMAN Barrett advanced into the final with his second hard-fought points success of the night.

Barrett, who had scraped past Scott Gammer earlier in the night, did the same against Baker, conqueror of British Champion Danny Williams.

This contest pitted Baker, at 2ost 7lb, the heaviest in the competition, against the lightest - Barrett at under 16st.

However, that did not prove critical as Barrett was the fitter of the two fighters with Baker looking shattered by the end of the second.

Barrett nearly claimed a victory inside the distance in the last as big left wobbled Baker, before a huge right uppercut in the dting seconds did likewise.

"I'm in it to win it," said Barrett. "I've loads of energy left for the final and I don't care who I meet - I'm going to win no matter who I face."

QUARTER-FINAL 4: DANNY HUGHES BEAT NEIL PERKINS - RSF R1
DAANY Hughes only needed 45 seconds to dispose of Neil Perkins.

Both fighters were undefeated but Perkins suffered the first defeat of his career inside the opening round.

A massive right hook from Hughes was delivered with pin-point accuracy and Perkins crumpled. He tried to get up but the power from the punch proved to much as he wobbled to his feet but was massively unsteady.

Referee Marcus McDonnell made the right decision to stop the contest as Hughes can now prepare for a semi-final with Audley Harrison.

"I knew the punch was going to come so what can I say, it was just a really hard punch," said Hughes.

"It wasn't the best punch I've ever thrown but I'm used to fighting journeyman who come just to survive and it's harder to get your shots off like that.

"I'm ready for Audley Harrison so let's see what happens. The competition is full of shocks."

QUARTER-FINAL 3: AUDLEY HARRISON BEAT SCOTT BELSHAW - RSF R2
AUDLEY Harrison moved into the semi-final in emphatic style with a second round stoppage against Scott Belshaw.

Harrison, keen to avoid an early elimination as had just happened to arch rival Danny Williams, was booed on his way into the ring.

Former Olympic Champion Harrison waited until Belshaw attacked and a short, straight left caught Belshaw flush in the face and the Irish fighter fell to the canvas.

He got up but the fight did not last much longer. Belshaw attacked again in the second but Harrison caught him with a beautiful left-hand that sent Belshaw to the canvas again.

Belshaw got up but referee Dave Parris decided Belshaw was in no position to continue.

"It's three fights so I wanted to keep sharp," said Harrison.

"He was a big, strong guy and it was hard to get my jab off. There's a long way to go but I'm grateful for the victory.

"I'm a boxer so I'm hitting and moving, I'm not just all crash, bang, wallop. I was trying to set him up to get him to walk onto my shots and that's what happened in the first and in the second it was all over.

"There's a long way to go but the first hurdle has been dealt with."

QUARTER-FINAL 2: DANNY WILLIAMS LOST TO CARL BAKER - PTS
There was a sensational upset in the second quarter-final.

Current British Champion Danny Williams slumped to a shock points defeat against Carl Baker.

Williams, priced at an almost-certain 1/10 by the bookmakers to win was floored twice in the opening round at the ExCel.

The first knockdown came after a crushing right to Williams' head and the second following a barrage of unanswered punches.

Baker, the heaviest fighter of the eight at 20st 7lb, had to withstand heavy pressure in an incredible third round as Williams was quite literally fighting to save his career.

Baker managed to survive and got the points victory by 28-27, 29-26 and 28-26 margins.

"After I knocked him down I knew I had won it," said Baker.

"It was just about staying on my feet after that. I've just beaten the British Champion and the guy who beat Mike Tyson.

"No one gave me a chance and the odds against me were stupid. Bring on the next fight."

The defeat means Williams relinquishes his British Championship and serious questions will be asked about his future in the sport."

QUARTER-FINAL 1: SCOTT GAMMER LOST TO COLEMAN BARRETT - PTS

COLEMAN Barrett became the first man through to the semi-final with a tough points decision victory over former champion Scott Gammer.

All three judges gave it to the Irishman by 29-28 margins. Barrett made a bright start and did enough to edge the opening couple of rounds.

Gammer knew he needed a big last round and caught Barrett a number of times. However, it was too little too late and Barrett, who landed 31 punches compared to 25 from Gammer.

There was an incredible atmosphere at the ExCel Arena with a 5,000 sell out for the eagerly-awaited competition.

The opening quarter-final was between Coleman Barrett and former British Champion Scott Gammer.
