PRIZEFIGHTER HEAVYWEIGHTS : SAT, OCTOBER 9 - YORK HALL, BETHNAL GREEN, LONDON

Concepcion scrapes victory to claim last Prizefighter place - 06/02/2010

MARTIN Concepcion has claimed the eighth spot in the next Prizefighter event - but only just.

Concepcion booked himself the final slot on the forthcoming Prizefighter Light-Middleweights, which takes place on Friday, February 26 with a dramatic and controversial points victory over Kevin Hammond.

The victory saw Concepcion retain his Midlands Area title, but, more importantly, put him in the eight-man field for the £32,000 top prize and a potentially-career-changing night in Prizefighter.

A strong final round was enough to give Concepcion victory by just one point but referee Shaun Messer’s 97-96 scorecard drew widespread boos from the Nottingham crowd.

Concepcion, who has now won 16 out of his 22 professional contests, is a former Commonwealth challenger and will be up against some of the best British boxers in the division.

Prizefighter Light-Middleweights takes place at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London and the full line-up is Prince Arron (Droylsden, Manchester), Danny Butler (Bristol), Martin Concepcion (Leicester), Brett Flournoy (Birkenhead, Merseyside), George Hillyard (Canning Town), Steve O'Meara (West Drayton, Middlesex), Bradley Pryce (Newbridge, Wales) and Neil Sinclair (Belfast).

Tickets cost £30 and £50 and are available from Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900.
